LOOP DESIGN & BUILD CONCEPT HOUSE
Making more with less. Despite being a 125 m2 footprint house on a compact 400 m2 block, this 3×2 build feels generous.
Positioning the dynamic between house and landscape as central, we engaged Topio Landscape Architecture at the start of the design process. A material palette of Colorbond and fibre cement sheet is linked with detailed window surrounds and flashings. An oxide used in the burnished concrete floor and terracotta bathroom tiles links back to a recycled brick walkway. Uncluttered surfaces are complemented by numerous windows, warm timber and olive-green walls in a communal area, visually defining zones throughout the house.
Key design features include a continuous 2,700 ceiling that flows throughout the house, spaces that connect without doorways, a wonderful trapezoid skylight in the bathroom, and a courtyard deck that also serves as the front entrance.
Not only does a smaller design save construction costs, it also frees up space for a garden, which in turn allows for a healthier style of living. Located a stroll away from the centre of Cowaramup town, the LOOP Design & Build Concept House encourages participation in the community and facilitates a sense of belonging to place.
