FRISBEE HOUSE
Designing and building a house for our clients is always a privilege, knowing we have enhanced in some small way their quality of life. However sometimes the process is as rewarding as the outcome, as was the case with ‘Frisbee House’.

A modest brief for a 2x2 set on a beautiful 2-acre sub-division on the west side of Witchcliffe, gave plenty of scope for design possibilities. There was a reserve of bush that our clients had already designated as a Frisbee Golf zone, unique steel mesh baskets scattered through the trees, part sculpture part art installation. Sometimes a broad scope for a design can be daunting, but in this case the block and the views to the trees seemed to dictate the design in a way that didn’t leave a wide range of options.

So, the concept designed was developed in more detail than usual and when presented to the clients we expected the usual process of fine-tuning spaces to suit. In this case there were no changes. One of the few times we went straight from concept, to working drawings, to a quote and building in no time. Wonderful! With each idea explored, we navigated to the most magical outcome and with each detail there was a flow of inspiration both ways that made the process seamless, enjoyable and particularly rewarding.

Interestingly the outcome is one of the best houses we have ever built. Flooded with natural light, a nice deep verandah to enjoy the afternoon sunsets and a great selection of materials. Even a day bed to soak up the winter sun…….really every house should have one! When we returned 12 months later for photos, the owners expressed how much they loved the house and gave us the highest compliment of all: ‘if they built again, they wouldn’t change a thing’. Sometimes a simplified process can lead to an elegant design that does not get over thought, a good lesson for our Team moving forward.
