SIMALA RETREAT
A contemporary sanctuary set on 40 acres of biodiverse forest and surrounded by vineyards, Simala Retreat is a luxurious holiday haven in the heart of the Margaret River region.

With a brief to create three stylish, open plan chalets and a complimentary guest wellness studio for yoga, meditation and massage, the vision for the project was to embed guests in the beauty of the site's natural surroundings whilst enjoying luxurous, lightfilled accommodations.

Upon entering the long, meandering driveway, the juxtaposition of the contemporary design against the forest setting is visually captivating. The combination of Night Sky Colorbond and painted white fibre cement sheets in the material palette imparts a striking ambiance.
Simala Retreat kitchen
External timber screening filters the northern light through the living areas and doubles as screening for additional privacy. Recycled and painted feature brick walls gives textural contrast to the internal spaces and provides additional thermal mass to the buildings.
With creative freedom and a good synergy with the owners, Simala Retreat was exciting to work on from the beginning. Now an in-demand accommodation choice for visitors to the region year round, this creative collaboration was a real success.
